Since GKS-G is around the corner, I thought I would share a few of my personal tips to the aspiring applicants
Hi, I am, a GKS-G 2022 Scholar. I got accepted by Hanyang University, Kyung Hee University and Chonnam National University. My major is International MBA.
1) The most important advice would be to learn how to write a personal statement. I have spent so many hours watching videos and YouTube as well as researching on how to write a good personal statement and therefore present myself better through my writing. Don’t just limit yourself to watching content related GKS Personal Statement or SOP but also read Personal statements for different universities and countries. Slowly you’ll get an idea of what to write. After brainstorming and noting down all your content, you should start editing your material. Always remember, each and every line of your personal statement should have a reason ( how/ why/ what/ when). Also, when it comes to mentioning about your awards and achievements, don’t simply write them down, this essay is not a resume but the journey of your life. Try to incorporate what you’ve learned during the process and how has it helped you grow professionally or personally. Lastly, don’t try to drag onto a single incident, your essay should be to the point but at the same time flow like a story.
2) When you start gathering your documents, start putting them in order of the checklist at the same time. Take a note of what documents you have and what are still to be prepared. Last year, I saw a lot of people who forgot to put certain documents in the end which resulted in losing their scholarship. Also, as soon as you get the guidelines, start labeling your documents. A lot of people tend to forget this which again shows your lack of effort. A neat and arranged document application will definitely add a plus one to your entire application.
3) For University track applicants, make sure to confirm the delivering address with your university. There were instances last year, where the some applicant’s documents were delivered to a different department in the same college. Even though this doesn’t happen often but if you have any doubts, always clear them with your university!
4) Lastly, stay motivated during this period! ( even though I know how stressful it gets)
All the best to this year’s applicants
