FAST-NUCES – University of Michigan-Flint (1+1 Master Students – Fall 2026 Intake

Dear FAST-NUCES Current MS Students,
The International Education Office, FAST-NUCES, is pleased to share an exciting and exclusive opportunity for currently enrolled MS students of FAST-NUCES to continue their graduate studies at the University of Michigan-Flint, USA, through a special 1+1 Master’s Pathway for Fall 2026 under MoU.
This pathway offers students the chance to complete the first year of their MS degree at FAST-NUCES and then proceed to the University of Michigan-Flint for the second year, allowing them to gain international academic exposure, a globally recognized learning experience, and strong future career and research opportunities in the United States.
The University of Michigan-Flint is part of the renowned University of Michigan system, and its graduate programs are designed to combine rigorous academics with practical, industry-relevant learning. Its College of Innovation & Technology offers advanced graduate study in high-demand technology fields and emphasizes both theoretical depth and applied learning.

Program Overview

Under this 1+1 Master’s Pathway, students will:
  • complete one year of study at FAST-NUCES at local tuition rates,
  • transfer to the University of Michigan-Flint for the second year of their Master’s studies,
  • and work toward completing their graduate degree through this international progression opportunity.
Students who have successfully completed their first semester and are currently in their second semester are eligible to apply. Students who are currently in their third semester may also apply.

  • MS Artificial Intelligence
  • MS Data Science
  • MS Cyber Security
  • MS Software Engineering
  • MS Computer Science
UM-Flint offers graduate opportunities in these and closely aligned technology areas through its College of Innovation & Technology. 

Benefits of 1+1 Pathway program

This pathway offers several important academic and professional advantages for FAST-NUCES students:
1. International Master’s Experience
Students will be able to study in the United States at a university within the University of Michigan system, gaining valuable international academic exposure and experience.
2. The Advantage
Students will complete their first year at FAST-NUCES by paying local tuition fees, and only the second year will be undertaken at UM-Flint.
3. Strong Career and Research Prospects
Students may benefit from:

4. CPT / OPT Potential
Students in eligible F-1 status may later explore Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT), subject to U.S. immigration regulations and university authorization. UM-Flint’s international student resources specifically note that CPT/OPT opportunities exist but must follow strict rules, and many such opportunities arise during the later stage of graduate study. OPT is temporary employment directly related to the student’s major field of study.
5. Reduced Tuition at UM-Flint under MoU
The standard tuition and fee estimate shared for one year is:
  • Tuition Fee: $18,496
  • Registration Fee: $582
  • Miscellaneous Charges: $1,000
Total Standard Cost: $20,078
Due to the support of:
  • CIT Non-Resident Scholarship
  • Global Merit Scholarship
the expected tuition cost is reduced to:
$11,162 for the year
This makes the opportunity significantly more affordable for FAST-NUCES students.
6. Estimated Living and Other Expenses
The estimated annual living and related costs are as follows:
  • Housing & Meals: $11,374 per year (tentative / expected)
  • Health Insurance: $2,330 per year
  • Books & Supplies: $800 per year (can vary and may be reduced depending on actual use and course requirements)
7. Estimated Total Annual Cost
Including tuition and living expenses, the total estimated cost is approximately:
$25,666
This is already a significantly reduced estimate due to scholarship support. FAST-NUCES will also try its best to explore whether further support may be arranged through alumni and other facilitation channels.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this pathway, students should meet the following requirements:
  • Must be a currently enrolled MS student at FAST-NUCES
  • Must have completed at least the first semester
  • Students in second semester and third semester may apply
  • Minimum CGPA: 3.0 out of 4.0

Proof of Funds

Students must be able to show financial documents for visa and admission purposes. UM-Flint’s international graduate admissions guidance states that international applicants must provide an affidavit and proof of financial support for one year, including items such as a bank statement showing available balance, students should be prepared to show a bank statement covering the estimated annual expenses, approximately:
$30,000 USD total
Funds should be available as early as possible to support visa processing and documentation.

English Proficiency Requirements

All international applicants must demonstrate English proficiency unless exempt under university policy. UM-Flint currently lists the following accepted graduate English proficiency scores: 
  • TOEFL iBT: 84 (institution code 1853)
  • TOEFL Essentials: 8.5
  • IELTS Academic: 6.5
  • Duolingo English Test: 110
  • Cambridge English: 176
  • Pearson PTE Academic: 56
Students who do not currently have an English proficiency score are still encouraged to apply, but they must be ready to take one of the accepted tests within the coming days if shortlisted or required for onward processing. Duolingo is good option. 
Important Note for International Students
UM-Flint’s international graduate admissions guidance states that in-person, on-campus programs are open to students seeking an F-1 visa, and students must provide the required financial and immigration documentation to proceed.

Step 2: Interviews
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews.
Step 3: Nomination Confirmation
Selected students will receive nomination confirmation via email by:
March 31, 2026
Step 4: Formal Application on the UM-Flint Portal
Students nominated by FAST-NUCES will then proceed with the formal university application.
Tentative Deadline: April 5, 2026
After nomination, selected students may also be guided regarding:
  • application documentation,
  • English test submission,
  • financial documents,
  • and visa-related preparation.
